Welcome all to my Grassroot Soccer blog! Throughout my stay in Cape Town I am going to try to post at least weekly to share my reflections, stories and pictures (ya know using the new fancy pants camera!) of what will inevitably be a year full of exciting, unique, and life-changing experiences.

For those of you who don't already know, I will be living in Cape Town, South Africa for a YEAR--yes that's 12 months, starting August 4th. I will be working with Grassroot Soccer, an organization that uses soccer as a means to promote awareness and education about HIV/AIDS, as a M&E (monitoring and evaluation) intern. Although I have no idea what M&E people do and or what my life activities, beyond playing a lot of soccer :), are going to be, I am excited to jump head first into this position and give it all my heart and passion. As I jump in I will be sure to post the happenings on here for you!

Additionally, please consider making a donation to my year! Unfortunately this position is unpaid and Grassroot Soccer suggests that each intern raise $10,000 over the year. As of this post I have about $1,500 left until I reach this goal! If you would like to donate you can do so here( http://www.gofundme.com/2dx6zs ) or ask me for other ways.  A HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who have supported me thus far through donations, thoughts, and prayers. I am constantly reminded of how blessed I am to have such amazing people in my life. I wouldn't be able to do this without each one of you by my side. <3

Thanks for visiting and be sure to check back soon for more updates.

33 days until orientation. 37 days until AFRICA!

Peace and love,
Betsy
